A 52-week poetic adventure…

Every Night
My favorite song? Goodness, what a question.
I can't pin myself down, box myself in like that.
It's like asking what I'd want as a tattoo.
My feelings change every day, every moment,
Music shifts, matching fleeting emotions.
At first request, one song rose clear above the rest:
Every Night, by Imagine Dragons.
Yes… Don't tease. You'll find out why if you're nice.

Classic ID, with lyrics of apologetic fidelity,
In hauntingly picturesque terms, simple yet profound:
Colorless sunrise and wind in your hair –
Do you want me to stay? Say the word, and I'll be gone,
But all else being equal, I'm here every night.

Production carries a slightly country flair,
At least that was my first impression
Back in 2018 when I listened to it first.
Where was I? In Middle Tennessee on a hot summer day,
Exploring music with dollar store earbuds
Trying not to break impossibly fragile wires!

An instant treasure, a hallmark of Night Visions,
Right alongside Round and Round, Amsterdam, Tiptoe
It gets better each time I listen,
Especially since I've upgraded my sound system!

Years later, I had to introduce a friend to ID,
Someone with particular, refined tastes.
I gave her Eyes Closed, partly by accident… She said,
“Meh, those are electronic drums. I adore key changes.”
Key changes? I knew nothing of music theory,
Wracking my brain to pull up a song which would delight her
With melodic variety and real instruments.

Lo and behold, the bridge of Every Night came to mind,
And I sensed such endearing melody is what she was referring to.
Sending it along, she responded enthusiastically.
We bonded, even briefly, over a beloved song.
This simple interchange taught me to appreciate my music better
And analyze it for more than just the lyrics.

Words: 299. Lines: 36.
Prompt: Write about a song you love.
Ideas:

Does it bring back memories for you?
Does the song remind you of someone? Who?
