20220328 Writing Update

Writing update!

Long story has hit 41k words and a slight hiccup. I think I’ve written myself into a corner (I do not want the MCs to hook up until the end, just before I kill one of them), so it looks like the last chapter and a half I’ve written will have to be deleted so I can go down a different pathway. This happens. But it does mean that the word count will drop down to 36k-odd words before resuming.

I finished a short story for an anthology – Poe-Faced. Write a story with one of Poe’s themes but in your own style. Not allowed to rewrite a Poe tale. 5100 words after edits, and I’m happy with it. Hopefully the editors are as well.

Wrote a short story based on the old Smokie song ‘Living Next Door To Alice’. 3000 words. I made it creepy, though not out-right horror. More thriller, I guess. Genres in this area are hard to nail down. Not sure what to do with it.

Had a poem accepted by the local paper. Not sure when they’ll print it. It’s a comedy “bush ballad style” about our lack of snow in Australia.

Have also written stuff for contests, challenges, etc. here at WdC, so the word count is always increasing.

Sorry this is a me-centric entry, but this is my writing blog, and these are my current writering things.

However, I also have a question: Is there anything based on my experience you would want to know about when it comes to writing? Ask, and if I have an answer, I will attempt to answer it, and if I don’t, I will say I don’t and then go and do some research.
