Waiting for Death
We sit quietly
in the palliative care room
keeping things gentle

You are beyond
care in this last bed
we don’t know if you know

much beyond pain
but your favourite songs play
as we keep vigil

& outside the sun sits
traffic grinds & whistles
people pass by

ignorant & ordinary
dying is both
& it keeps people waiting

we sit quietly
keeping things gentle
waiting for death


with a very cheap webcam
