On Waking
On Waking
In that first moment when I awake,
the dream fades with the shades of night,
all that was clear and accepted
is now scattered and chaotic,
the shreds of meaning torn by the dawn,
and I am left befuddled and cold,
mourning in the dim light of morning,
bereft of another world’s charms.
