Death Maidens
I watch the death maidens
in the trees
white I sit in my car
at the pharmacy pick-up line.
A venue of vultures, perching.
When they feed it is a wake,
crushed bones, skulls, guts.
Nature's clean up crew.
They can, they will, they do.
Are they really unclean, ugly carrion
or necessary sanitation workers?
I pick up my allotment
of Big Pharma
and thank the death maidens
and modern science.
I breathe, I listen
looking for peace with the radio on.
I can, I will, I do.
