The Birthday Gift Was You

You came with a cake,
And suddenly I forgot how to breathe.
Not because of the frosting,
But because you were standing there
Like a wish I hadn’t dared to say out loud.

I tried to keep my cool,
But my cheeks had other plans
Smiling so hard my jaw almost strained,
Blushing like my heart had baked me
Into a walking raspberry.

You didn’t just bring sweetness
You were the sweetness.
The cake was just a prop.
A soft decoy for the real surprise:
You're thinking of me,
You're showing up,
You knowing just what would light me up
Without even lighting the candles.

Let’s be honest
You could’ve walked in empty-handed,
And I’d still have felt full.

Because it’s not about dessert.
It’s about being seen,
Chosen,
Celebrated
By someone who already feels like
The icing on life’s messiest days.

You take the cake
But you also take the credit
For making that day unforgettable.

I was trying not to burst,
Not from sugar,
But from how big love felt
In that small, perfect gesture.

And if I ever forget what joy looks like,
Remind me of that day—
Of how just being yours
Was the real gift all along.
