Babies

I've never been married and never had a kid of my own. That wasn't the plan, it just happened that way. Over the years I've decided I wouldn't have made a very good Mom anyway, and the planet doesn't need more human beings anyway, so it's a good thing I didn't reproduce. I know, I know, rationalisation, but heck that's what helped me cope. I'm happy now the way I am.

When Covid happened I thought it's a sure sign that the planet was saying it's too full of humans. I thought nobody'd have a kid now.

But guess what, people did have kids.

I wondered how they could be so brave (or was it stupid?).

And then my friend and his wife had a kid. And this is a guy from my Harry Potter group with whom we discussed the post-wizarding-war-baby-boom and the post-Covid baby boom. I wasn't quite expecting it when he told me his wife was expecting a baby!!

The kid is just over a year old and learning to walk. I get videos at significant milestones.

And it warms my heart.

I know now why people are still having babies. They're brave, but not stupid.
