Au Revoir
Prompts day 9: Story to include a foreign word or phrase.

She gazed into his eyes as they embraced one last time under the Eiffel tower.

“Will you be back?”

“Of course, I promise I'll return. Au revoir, Mon Cheri.”

He saluted her before striding into the airplane with his shiny new uniform.

Years dragged by; war raged across the land. She waited faithfully. Then, she grew deathly ill. When he heard the news, he left the service to return to her side. Peace arrived without his help, but he knew it was the right decision.

“You're here,” she whispered.

He squeezed her hand.

“I won't tell you au revoir again.”
