Card
“No hablo Espanol.”
The man slowly asked, “How I pay?” He gestured with his debit card.
I pointed at the card reader. He smiled and slid his card. He tapped to withdraw a twenty. The register opened the change drawer. I took out the twenty and handed it to him.
He pressed it into my palm.
He took his empty hands back and held them up. I shook my head no. He smiled and rapidly rattled off something in Spanish. Then paused. “You no curse. Tip.”
And that’s how I made a twenty dollar tip on a fifty cent coffee.
