Earliest Halloween
Prompt: What is your earliest Halloween memory?
In Arizona, I was four, there was a knock at the door. We opened it and there were kids wearing white sheets and I wasn't sure what was happening. Mom told me not to be afraid. It was Halloween.
Later over the years, I was a witch, 1920s girl, Bonnie Parker, a floozy and Audra Barkley of The Big Valley.
I remember my first grade teacher had a plastic cauldron and told us kids to fund paper clips, rubber bands, pencils, tape and little items around the room. We put them in cauldron. At 2:30, the teacher told me to take the lid off the cauldron. I was afraid but I opened the lid. Imagine my surprise when I saw the cauldron was full of candy! I thought it was magic. Years later, I knew the teacher put the candy in the cauldron. Some good Halloween memories.
