Meaningful Connection

Day 3992 November 2

I had been going through old notebooks of poems and scrapbooks with pictures. Some items brought joy and others reminded me of times of sorrow. But the items that had the most meaningful connection was related to Christmas.
The Christmas tree is so symbolic. I let my class color and cut out ornaments of different shapes to use as decorations as they wanted. The ornaments all turned out to be works of art. Knowing that a real tree would add the scent, the project did not need more. The students could not wait to take their personalized ornament home. I later learned that the ornaments graced presents and cards. My students loved the reception they received.
Afterwards I found an envelope with my samples, aged with time. This was the Christmas I was alone. No member of my family invited me to share with them the holiday festivities. No cards. No calls. Nothing.
But then I figured that I was not truly alone. I had my previous students with the memory of the ornaments that they had made for me to keep me company.
