A Note of Gratitude
Day 4013
A Note of Gratitude
This story is about 50 years old. I was a senior in high school. It was the last day of our school year and a few minutes before lunchtime. I was checking in my purse and my mother forgot to give me money for lunch. I mumbled, "Oh my mother forgot my lunch money."
A boy across the aisle heard me. He reached into back pocket and pulled out his wallet. "Here," he replied "Have a nice lunch" as he gave me a one dollar bill."
I whispered, "Thank you." I was embarrassed but took it. I did not think about day it was. I was hungry.
Now those many years later, I have found this gentleman who has been married to the love of his life for about 40 years.
I have no intention of trying to call him because I do not want to upset or cause them any friction. But I do want to pay him back with something that is indeed worth more than a dollar. I have a friend who might help me once I explain what I want to do.
But if I could write a note, I would like to say"
Dear XXXX,
Thank you for what you did on our last day in high school.
You did what I do not think anyone else would do, and that is show me kindness.
I have a surprise for you and your wife that should come in about 1-2 weeks. This
is for the dollar you gave me so I wouldn't go hungry on the last day of school. I wish you both
a long marriage with happiness and good health.
Take care. Love each other. Bless you.
Then my name.
It is that act of kindness that was appreciated. I have tried to pass it on. And I always will
in honor of my friend.
The End.
