T.S. Spivet, Poetry and the Loose Caboose
A busy Friday afternoon and evening. Went to talk by Reif Larson, author of The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet, His ab-fab website is here (beware, you might get lost in it) : http://www.tsspivet.com/
I watched two IWF films at the Wilma: "Amba the Russian Tiger" and "Mountains of the Monsoon". Both films were more about the myths, the importance of large predators, the preservation of habitat than the actual big cats. I enjoyed both. The first really brought the viewer to a landscape of the northern woods of Eastern Russia in winter. The second, the glorious forest and upland grasslands of the Ghat in India. Both had scenery reminiscent of Montana.
I stopped in for some music by Four Shillings Short at the Celtic Connection. I try to support my friends as best I can and Michele Mulligan Rutherford has been wonderful to me. I then went to a reception by Kelly Hart (photographer) and Emily Walter-Seitz (poet).
I really like Emily's poetry. She read a very good but personal poem at the end. I told her: have someone else read it. I know how hard it is to read personal poems of loss. This one was about a stillborn child.
Thursday night was my writing group with Hobie, Nona, Carol, Kate, Parris, Nancy and Frances as host. They read 7 of my recent poems back to me then chose 3 as the best. So I've made those separate items here :
This Saturday morning I ventured to market, bought my chive and onion cheese curds and had my first coffee at the Loose Caboose (immortalized by our own David a.k.a. Paryof5). I got a tall double shot espresso spiced latté.
a drift of leaves and yellow wings
tube petals of a red hot poker,

we stole or borrowed.
Excerpt from a newer re-edited poem found in: "166.37* Collage"
Montana: warmer, sunny, aiming for 70 degrees.
