The true meaning of friendship and how to save yours.

When I was a little girl I had imaginary friends. They would be ghost no one believed I could see and furry cute creatures that I would invent to keep me company. As I grew up the furry animals went away but the ghost took a while for me to control. Because I was never a "normal" kid but more what grown ups referred to as an old soul, making real live friends was often times hard. Nonetheless I prevailed. My life was divided into school, home, fun weekends, baseball or soccer practice and of course my friends. Many of the friends I made as a child are long gone from my life, not for anything else than distance since I moved so many times. The few I've had the fortune of still counting on have been with me through the good the bad and the ugly.

WE consider ourselves family and in the end that's how it should be. My own family sometimes act like strangers. But friends have come to my aid even when family couldn't or wouldn't. That type of bond is unbreakable even when you go months without talking. We pick up right where we left of. We still know each other's favorite flavors and colors. My biggest worry is to know show them how much I appreciate them and how much I value their love.

Just this morning I watched an episode of the new show for Jada Pinkett-Smith where she had Gabrielle Union as a guest. The topic of discussion was friendship and how do we let time pass by without addressing our friends and we find ourselves drifting apart and we don't even know why we're no longer in touch! So as they tried to hatched it out, Gabrielle was very open and heartfelt and in my opinion very honest about why she removed herself from the relationship. She felt she was constantly very self conscious about other women who held a definite poise and power in the industry. She admitted to gossiping, belittling others in order to make herself feel better. It's sad that women can't admire each other instead of feeling this need to compete. But I was thrilled that Gab grew from and past that and even sought out a life coach to train her body as well as her mind and spirit. In my opinion, it would have been a complete exorcism if Jada had admitted, hey girl, You said or did something that hurt me and I need us to talk. We can't just ignore an issue and expect for it to fix itself and go away on it's own. We gotta take care of our own.

To wrap it up, let's take the time to acknowledge those friends that were so much a part of our lives and for x or y reason their no longer around. Analyze why are they not a part of your life now, and could you have done to keep them as friends. Take a few minutes to chit chat and catch up with your friends and inquire about their well being. You'd be surprised on how many have missed you. *Smile*
