I do not know where to begin with this description. The time period is from 0 to now. Please don't ask how long that is. I am sure with certain clues, you will be able to figure that out.
I am writing this on my favorite old computer at home. I have a computer room that doubles as a retreat for a few of my pets when they want to be alone.
I will cover mostly current thoughts. I hope to add some pictures as I have seen in a blog. I think that to do this sharing will take a lot of work, but the pictures I have seen are well worth it.
Occasionally, I might review a flashback in mylife. I have times when I just roll that special even around in my mind until it has every possible facet examined. Usually this time is to try to figure out a "what if" scenario.
If some of my items have no zest to it feel free to say so. I think that after I have some a few trial runs, then the real me will be out for all of the world to see. Luck you! As the saying goes, "Come with me and the best is yet to be."
I've found that, for myself, thinking 1-2 steps ahead isn't difficult; it's the 3+ steps ahead that I started to get overwhelmed with all the possibilities. Which probably explains why I'm not a very good chess player!
Happy Birthday to you.
I agree that April is a great month for birthday that is filled with warm weather and lots of friends. It has all the makings for a fun time in which one can go outdoors and visit friends you missed during bad weather time.
Enjoy! Celebrate! Soak in that vitamin D from the sun!

Thank you to Soldier Mike for your read and special comments. I like the mention that the acronym is something personal. I would need a little help with X's or Qs. I had a Quincy in my class one time. He wasn't quick or quiet. I knew that he asked a lot of questions so 'Questioning' seemed to fit. He did not mind, and he enjoyed the word. If a person had a short name then I allowed the student to use their last name. I always wanted my students to have a good day.
These Blog writings are thought provoking and fun.
So since it is Spring, let me wish you and your family a nice Springtime. I was glad to see the last snow we had melted. I can take longer walks and go outside to write more.
Take care !
Soldier Mike
Thank you for your read and response on this blog. I usually keep my t-shirts for a long time. Then when they do not have to good as new look I either use them as undershirts to become a layer in winter or pajama wear. I have shirts that I bought when I went to different cities for the U. S. National Fencing tournaments that I qualified for. The older ones/shirts I keep as a way to remember the where and when I went.
As for the jeans, I seem to have gained a little weight since I retired from my sport. You can't lose it if you don't burn those calories. One cannot fence in jeans. A fencer must wear all white. White jeans are really hard to find. So the blue jeans are part of my travel ensemble.
My jeans are usually blue, elastic waist and not tapered in the legs. I grew up in the country so that style reminds me of home. I did not live on a farm but tried to help with yard work. Weeding flowerbeds in particular. It helped me see nature and find special animals. (baby birds, lizards, snakes, caterpillars, and such.)
Well I have shared enough and thank you for your reaction.
Have a nice day.
Happy Spring time.
Picking the right clothing can be a challenge, especially if, as you say, your preferred size regularly becomes unavailable. I have enough t-shirts to last the rest of my life (and I've owned some more than half my life), so jeans are my most "frequent" purchase; as I'm no longer part of the rough-and-tumble set, they last quite a while. Color selection's easy: black, tan or basic blue go with anything and support my severely limited fashion sense.
The quotation of Helen Keller can be such an inspiration to hearing impaired and hearing normal people. Her life story is indeed one in which two women, Miss Keller and Miss Ann Sullivan proved that together, ' they did accomplish so much!'
I have worked with the hearing impaired. Just a couple of times I interpreted for visually impaired students in school. It was more of a challenge for me than them because I worried that my signs were not big enough for them to see or that they had learned the signs I used. Each time, the student nodded and said that it was fine. These were special and intelligent students. I am sure that their deaf friends helped them as they grew up together. And,if Helen's parents learned sign language and tried to communicate with this child, they did a wonderful job.
Each child, who I worked with seemed that they had not been intimidated by anything. They were also friendly with all of their peers.
In the case of Helen Keller, she had received attention from her parents who wanted the best for them. Helen had the family's cook's daughter to play with and create signs of their own before Miss Sullivan came to their home. For the particulars, there is a very good movie about Helen Keller's life.
Miss Keller went to college with Miss Sullivan as her interpreter. She met Mark Twain. And Helen helped to co-found the ACLU.
I am very impressed with this young lady who had so many obstacles to overcome. Other children might have been put in an institution to exist and be forgotten at that time in history. Helen's parents were right on track.
So a physical impediment is a barrier or obstacle. With the right family and friends, life can become one of rewarding experiences. Any handicap can slow one down in maturation of life, but only if one lets it be a dead-end or permanent deterrent. Helen Keller took the high road and the right road. Even people with good vision can see that.
Are you kidding me?
I have quite a few that made my day. But when I read this prompt, the first song was "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around the Old Oak Tree". Two lovers that were separated for a while. The man wrote a letter (if my memory has not gone ) saying he would come home to his sweetheart. When he arrived, the tree was covered with so many yellow ribbons that he must have jumped out of the car and ran into the arms of his one and only. Ah! True love forever!
The next was Kenny Roger's, "The Gambler." He is gone but this song will also live on.
The third was, "Itzy Bitzy Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" for summer time sun lovers. The refrain was so easy and cute.
Fourth was The Theme Song from MASH, "Suicide is Painless" It was used in one episode of the TV version.
Fifth: (Don't worry, I'll stop at ten) "Hey Jude" by the one and only Beatles.
Sixth: was "Suspicious Minds" by the crooner and hip shaker, Mr. Elvis Presley himself.
Seventh was "Pretty Woman"
Eighth: was "RESPECT" by Miss Aretha Franklin. I still sing it to myself today.
Ninth was "Sugar, Sugar"
Tenth: from the movie the Graduate, "Mrs. Robinson"
Now I had my musical songs like Classical Gas, Theme from the Bridge over the River Kwai, Love is Blue, and Exodus. I was a music minor in college so what can I say. I came along with a lot of classical music that I can listen to for hours. This was a fun prompt because it took me back to earlier days and let me sing or hum to my heart's content.
A comment from me about the music today is that it is sometimes too loud and really not interesting to me. I would like to know that the loud music can cause deafness and that the listeners will later regret that they had to have the music blaring as they drive their cars.
Oh the beauty of Niagra Falls. New York! New York! as sung by the incomparable Frank Sinatra. What a voice.
And now my opinion of this prompt?
I have been to this tourist attraction in New York. My mother's family lived in near there and wanted to give us the trip that would be unforgettable. The day was windy and a little cloudy. There were plenty of people but we did not see any 63 year old teacher getting into a barrel. I am a teacher, retired and would not do that. I guess I am ahead of my intended answer. But we got wet. And we had a nice time. Our host, my mother's great uncle was all smiles when he saw the look on our faces.
Since then I have read that there is a lot of water going down Niagra River that connects the two great lakes. (Lake Erie and Lake Ontario). And no one in their right mind would want to swim there. Actually it is prohibited. More than 5,000 bodies have been found at the bottom. I choose to not be 5001st body. There might be animals in the area but they know what they are doing.
I prefer to enjoy the beauty of New York and the company of family. My tour also consisted of a tour of where my mother went to nursing school in Rochester University. As another treat, there is a find program for deaf students, NTID, that I could recommend to students who were in my class. (I worked/taught the hearing impaired.)
Do you see how easy it is for me to get off topic. No I am not ashamed of that but must warn you that if you want to read more of my work, I might do it again.
So the answer I will not take the plunge in a barrel, waterproof boat, or frog suit. And will I ever go back for another visit? That is for time and luck will decide.
And here are a few things I will not do:
1. Jump off the Empire Building with a parachute
2. Go in a mini-sub to look at the Titanic on the ocean floor
3. Ride on a rollercoaster with my eyes open or closed
4. Swim across the English channel
5. Get married again. Once is enough.
The key to Mr. Rohn's success is the 'YOU' factor. You decide. You plan it. You do it. You change it if the results are not to your liking. (I have not read any of his books so that is a quick guess.)
It is easy to listen to a speaker who has been there and done that. He probably did not start out rich. He also probably came from a poor to middle class family. But when the title of his speech or book includes hints of success and riches, the audience was all ears. He gave them hope through his stories or examples. (Sounds like a flim-flam man to me.) "Just buy my book. Only $29.95. Or come to this lecture. $30.00. And then buy my book for half price. " It just takes changing one's mind from negative to positive. It also takes making a decision to take a chance. "The old 'What if I do XYZ?' Easy? Sometimes. It also takes looking at the market for what is needed (supply and demand).
I am sure that Mr. Rohn did not intend to do anything but give his fans/admirers a boost in the old confidence department. And when a person does not reach the million dollar figure in their bank account, he-Rohn or someone might shrug his shoulders and reply, "Well maybe you didn't XYZ well enough."
Now I am sorry. I think that might cover the 'You run the day,' part, for the day runs you, a person is or was not motivated by anything. The "let's just see what happens" could be disastrous. Fate is indeed fickle. Add in the dependency of others for doing their part might lead to a headache and heartache that could be terminal. One must decide if they will at least be in control or not. At least one can blame fate or the neighbor next door for anything and everything. And where is my money now? What money! I have tried with lottery and working overtime. All I have to show for it is wrinkles and gray hair. That's what happened when I let the day run me.
Now I wish that the prompt was "You can ruin the day or the day ruins you." See how one little letter can change things. But it was almost the same thing. I guess I'll keep the first part. I'm hungry now. I'lm going to get dinner and watch an old movie. That shouldn't ruin my day.
Take care. Bye!
Well life can be likened to a chess game sometimes. If I move this piece, then I must check the pieces remaining on the board and see if a capture is possible. For life, if I go to the store will I get what I want, or pay more or even get my purse snatched because the mall has been plagued by violent criminals. Rained on by an unexpected shower. Or Forget to fill my gas tank and run out of gas. Any one of these three scenarios are not pleasant.
But do I overthink? Probably not.
Have I regretted not thinking in advanced? Not really. My life can be boring at times.
But If I have a busy schedule, like I did before retirement, I have regretted not thinking ahead.
I used to play chess. It was fun until my brother taught me to think ahead before I moved a piece. We split 50-50 in wins. But he was still a very good player.
My advice is to think ahead. Remember the Boy/Girl Scout motto to 'be prepared.' And try to think ahead 1 to 2 steps. It might save you a little anguish or it may give you a headache. Which one do you want?
What have I accomplished this year?
Not much. Weight loss Neg
Reading more books Neg
Reviewing and editing my work Neg
Walking more That's a draw
Organizing my records file Well let's just say, with head bowed, a weak No (sniff)
Sewing a gift for my grandniece Oh she might be in high school when my gift is done
Finally, improving my foreign language skills: Sign language, German and Spanish, a draw again
I look at this list and bemoan my lack of effort and resolve. What happened is pure, um,......laziness and _____________. Fill in the blank if you wish.
So take advice from me to work on these with a possible few more for the rest of the year. Print out my list and maybe give it a go for the rest of the year. I am not a complete disaster.
Nice prompt. No excuses. I must return to the person who wants more positivity and results. I might even surprise myself.
Bye!!!
I think you are too big. I can't carry you because I might drop you and make you cry.
I like your color of orange, but I like blue or purple better. Can you find a way to grow in
one of those colors? My brother says if you can, then he would like a red pumpkin.
My mother likes to make pumpkin pie. But she was too busy to make one this year so
can your Mother cook? She can get one from the store instead of cutting up her children.
I think that the story on TV with Charlie Brown and his friends is funny. Did you help
Charlie to write it? Can you write another for the Christmas time?
If you can't write because you have no arms, then ask some person to help you. That
would make me happy.
Your friend and Pumpkin love,
Dorianne
Please write before Thanksgiving. I asked my Mom to make apple pie instead, but she
might do pumpkin.
This event did not happen on Halloween Day. It happened when I was a teacher in school before Halloween. We had a new student of about 6 years old. He did not know much about Halloween. The teachers and I wanted to prepare a haunted house to reinforce some of the things the students might see in the neighborhood and learn language/vocabulary. I had a necklace with a blinking eye. The other teachers provided decorations to put in an empty room that had the lights turned off. The only lights used were at the corner of the room. We decided to use dry ice in a bowl with fake or plastic eyeballs in it. In another area we used fake skeletons. Finally we added other things for a special touch. We had approval to do this by our supervisor as long as the students were not traumatized.
We let a couple of students enter and walk along the path we had designed. We tried to explain that there was nothing to hurt anyone. But the new student must have never seen a haunted house and slowly walked behind another student. When I pulled out the blinking eye and picked out a fake eyeball, he panicked and ran out. He had also ran so fast, that he ran out of his shoes.
When we saw this we immediately went after him and apologized. His homeroom teacher give him a hug and waited until he seemed calm down. The other students were not afraid. But for the new student, it seemed real.
Since he was still afraid, we turned on all of the lights and let the new student and anyone who said that they were afraid, walk in the room and stop to look at the fixed up areas. They were impressed and seemed more comfortable with the lights on.
When we returned to the classroom, we had an open discussion of this haunted house and what we did. Soon the students were smiling and seemed to be relaxed. They even wanted to draw what they thought were scary masks. Some did a good job.
But I learned that young children really need to be prepared before they go into a strange, new place. This was the last year we were allowed to do a haunted house. That was fine with me since I do not like to have students to be afraid of the teachers, school or things that seemed very real. I think that Christmas or Valentine’s Day is better for the students to participate in.
