2222, May 15th

A couple centuries ago what was reported in the news was only a small part of the daily drama that others chose to share, that we chose to hear. An obscure poet wrote:

"What was really true, only gnus knew. And they weren't talking to us anymore ..."

All good logic. It's always hard to form a balance when not everyone is the same.

wolfgang IMO... It is good to ask questions and look at things in depth and from another point of view. It's why diversity is important in any academic (and non-academic) field. To critically think is more than asking and analyzing 'why' or 'what if'; it also entails looking around at at-the-moment reality. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. A point that some conspiracy theorists won't accept.

But rational thought also has limitations. The Socrates group at our library in Montana was caught in a tautology. Sure... their reasoning was strong; but, stuck in their box (libertarian/anarchistic/AynRand) they were asking the wrong questions and couldn't see that there were other paradigms available to organize society. They left out the practical and emotional.

They were also all white-male. A guarantee to come up with wrong answers.

As for common sense... that's not all too common.

The irony is that ultra conservatives worship the constitution, which was literally written to prevent this exact situation from happening. Separation of church and state, checks and balances, free and fair elections, an impartial and unbiased supreme court.

If only the founding fathers could see us now...

drkelly This was kept out of the newsfeed all he posted in the feed was a link to the blog, with the strong implication that it was political. You didn't have to click and read.

I find as a woman that we are still a minority group. Thirty years ago my mother qualified as a minority union member for the purposes of getting hired for city jobs in the construction industry. She was a drywall finisher and proud of not just being some flag girl on the highway but someone who was actually doing real construction.

Elisa, Stik-or-Treat I have had high-drama in my life. I learned that I had to turn away, and when that wasn't enough, I had to walk away. These days I have little drama... which is good because I'm too easily overwhelmed.

I learned during the obsession with 9/11 that I had to turn the TV off. Wish I could do that with my own traumas. Cognitive behavioral therapy has been suggested but I've been resistant to finding the right therapist.

wolfgang We have had protests here. We have somehow avoided violence even though we are a bastion of Oath Keepers and private gun arsenals. We also have the Jeanette Rankin Peace Center on the block where I live.

I do suspect that machismo is a factor. Those who entered the Capitol appeared to be mostly male, middle-aged and older. I suspect that the percentage of those with police/military background was higher than the average population; but, most mobs self-filter. For instance, English football hooligans aren't representative of the general population.
