May my opinions gather wind under their wings and fly, perchance to soar.

O PINIONS!

These are my opinions. The good, the very bad, the really really ugly.

Pinions are the flight feathers of birds. Without them they remain as grounded as we do. With them they soar.

As "Joy gives us wings" so anger and irrational feelings and thoughts ground us too. It is my hope that not all of my opinions are negative, that some may gain flight (or at least flop around.

)

Knees of the trees, a fountain, a rainbow, Muscogee, OK in 2004.

During the Azalea Fest the larch's knees approach the fronds.
The fountain's on and soft green feathers brush the surface.
In the mirror of the pond see by what I choose to share
(there... by the golden knees of old larch trees)
what lies beneath my surface.

The rich for the most part, have kept the wealth to themselves. The laws haven't been changed to keep up with the current prices. Ie I get $64 in food stamps lol because AI figured it out. To be continued on forum!

War on the Poor has been waged since the 1980s.
If you are in poverty it's nearly impossible to get out of it. I know there are programs to help, but I think society keeps the poverty-stricken down no matter the cost. It's quite infuriating to me.

War on diversity... since forever.
I agree. It will continue because our government makes sure of it.

War on the powerless... makes bullies feel better.
It's extremely difficult to help the powerless have the strength and courage to stand up for themselves. I don't think it's always the bully's fault. But for the most part, bullies do feel powerful when they can manipulate others, in my opinion.

War on our planet. Bring on the Apocalypse.? Why?
This has been happening since the beginning of time, no?

Rules are the framework that guide our actions, and while they may be bent or challenged, they are rarely completely disregarded.

Even in the seemingly chaotic environment of war, rules and strategies play a crucial role. The assumption that bullies derive satisfaction from their actions might hold some truth, but it is important to recognize that this is not a universal truth. The perception of powerlessness among individuals often stems from a lack of adequate support or access to necessary information. Empowering people with the right resources and knowledge can significantly alter their sense of agency and ability to act.

What needs to be changed if war is within the 'rules'?

Yeah, 2024 is going to be a hard year to keep opinions to one's self. I haven't had to block anyone on WdC, but I would probably only if I were being harassed by someone. Otherwise, it's usually enough to just stop responding and ignore them.

Never blocked anyone. Maybe I'm not offensive enough to instigate retribution that I wouldn't want to read. If it got too bad, it would probably be harrassment that would need to be reported.

If you don't want to ever see/access a member's items or their opinions (forum/newsfeed posts, etc.), there's an option to "Ignore" members. Blocking just stops you receiving anything from them by not letting them see your items or send emails or IMs to you.

Would anyone do one or the other or both?

Thank you for your responses. Yes, I can see why moderating and blocking wouldn't work.

In Real Life... there's one psychopath I would have to fear. Very intelligent. No moral core. After 20 years I may be safe. There have been a couple people I avoided in the past. But that was then... Now? In Montana or Thailand or Costa Rica... not an issue. Of course, I've changed too.

I don't block people now, but did block someone in the past. The block might have lasted a month. Like Lilli ☕

, I don't believe a Moderator should block people or content. Why I blocked someone is inconsequential, it's over. My opinion on blocking people? I think that if you feel you should block someone, first ask yourself a simple question. What would I do about this person if this occurred in real life? Answer that, and you'll know what to do.

Before I became a moderator, I did block one or two folks for harassing me. They have since left the site. As Waltz said, as a moderator, I don't block anyone because it's hard to moderate if folks are blocked.

I think in 20 years here, I might have blocked one user. If so, I can't remember why, and I can't be arsed to check if the block is still active. I'm pretty sure others have blocked me, but I wouldn't know.

Partly, it's really difficult to offend me with mere words. And also, I think it's important for me as a moderator to not block any content. Besides, when I find content I don't like but don't have to moderate, it's easy enough for me to simply ignore it.

I learned long ago that I will learn what I want to learn when I'm ready; or what I'm forced to learn whether I'm ready or not. I find exterior discipline annoying but useful. I learn incredible stuff on-line but one-on-one in a classroom setting is best. Mentoring, maybe hands-on multi-sensual apprenticeship works best... for me. There are many learning styles.
