| Prompt: Horror Genre Do you like the horror genre, and what was the first scary movie you saw or the scary book you read if you remember it? I love writing horror stories but can't watch horror movies! I go back a long way and like all teenagers I liked being scared out of my wits, but safely, with a strong pair of arms to shield me.  Vincent Price movies were popular in my day. The Pit and the Pendulum, The Hand and others of the same ilk. Later came Psycho, The Birds and anything directed by Alfred Hitchcock. But the slasher movies of today such as the Chainsaw Massacre and Saw, well, there's no way I could even begin to view those. I don't mind psychological horror movies such as, Seven with Brad Pitt. |

Prompt: If you were offered a chance to take the plunge over the Niagara, would you? Haha, I doubt anyone asked that question would reply in the affirmative. Not unless they were masochists. If I absolutely needed to state why not, I’d probably say: 1 I’m claustrophobic 2 I’m too big to fit in a wine barrel and a beer barrel would smell of hops of which I can’t stand the smell. 3 I’m scared of white water 4 I don’t want to die yet 5 I’m not crazy |
| Day 3981 October 23rd, 2025 Prompt: Let this quote about motivation inspire your entry today-- "Either you run the day or the day runs you," by Jim Rohn. Oh wow I’ve never heard this quote before but it’s certainly true. Has anyone noticed the more time you have in a day with no plan, very little is achieved? If I have a list of things to do I usually clear it by the end of the day. On the other hand if I can choose what I could/should do I procrastinate, take my time, have another cup of tea/coffee or waste time browsing on my phone. And then guess what? The day has run me instead of me running the day. |
| 2025 Prompt: What if a massive storm wipes out technology, thrusting society into a new dark age without electricity and internet? What would happen to you, then? Could you survive it? It would be very difficult, that’s for sure. We often have power outages where we live and so we have invested in a generator. Now that’s great so long as we have petrol to run it but at the pump you need electricity to get the fuel. For heating we have a wood burning stove so could cook soup or stew on the top. As for banking or anything to do with the internet? Well, we’d all be pretty well in a world of pain, wouldn’t we? Cash would become King again, bartering would definitely become imperative. But honestly we’re too far down the road of being dependent on the internet and technology to even think of managing without it. The world would be in absolute chaos. |
| Prompt: Write a ghost story including any characters of your choice, with one twist: the story takes place in a past decade or century. Have fun! I have a great ghost story. It even made me chuckle and I wrote it! You could imagine it to be in a past decade except it’s not! It’s certainly in the 21st century. Anyway check it out if you’ve the time.

I don’t really agree with asking that particular question but I do agree to taking the time to ask more when someone is stating a view dissimilar to mine, “that’s really interesting, tell me more.” People are often just repeating a point of view they’ve heard or has been drilled into them and haven’t really given it much thought. My friend, a Buddhist, loves to challenge people when they say something like:”I don’t like…” whatever it might be, perhaps a place, a person, or an even a country. She won’t let them get away with just saying they don’t like something she’ll ask them, “that’s interesting you say that, can you tell me why that is ?’ It makes people think before speaking. We need to be able to defend our point of view. |

What was the worst thing you ever did as a teenager? I’m trying to remember and then realised it’s probably best to forget. Well of course I was a teenager in the early sixties and the morals of the time were very different to what they are now. My boyfriend and I were allowed to go on holiday together on the proviso we had separate rooms at the boarding house my parents had booked for us. We borrowed my dad’s car along with so many rules about speeding etc. On that holiday we got very drunk, drove my dad’s car down a flight of steps and slept together. We were like released prisoners going wild. Knowing all that and getting away with it, I dread to think what my own kids got up to. |
| Prompt: pets Write about the best things about being a cat (or any other pet) owner and what your animal friends have taught you. Since being dogless after so many years after our beautiful Lucy’s death earlier this year, I’ve discovered many things. I miss her, but not her hair. I miss her but not her dirty footprints. I miss her but not her doggy slime art all over the glass door. I miss her being one step behind me all the time. I miss her nudging me for a piece of meat or asparagus! when I’m cooking. I miss having her to talk to I miss our walks together I miss her keeping the bandicoots out of my garden. I just miss her. |
| If you were going to change one thing on WDC, what would you change? This question stumped me. I thought, there must be something.🤔 Yet I couldn’t think of one. There’s something for everyone isn’t there? Poets can find like minded people here, with lots of poetry contests and groups with which to share their passion. There are contests to pique the interest of every type of genre writer. One can earn enough points by reviewing the work of others so one never needs to outlay actual money for their membership. Members can make virtual friendships here so one always can find someone to chat with in any timezone in the world. How cool is that? Plus the site is run and works so well because of the efforts of the StoryMaster who can fix any technical hitches almost instantly. I’ll be very interested in reading others POV on this subject. |
| Prompt: Write about your neighbors--- are they good neighbors or bad neighbors? I have a lovely neighbour. Margaret moved in next door 13 years ago when her husband died. She relocated to the little cottage from a family home. She was 80 then. She’s now 93 and although she’s only 12 years older than I am she treats me like a daughter and she’s the nearest to a mother I’ve had for a very long time. I take her to a singing group we both share every Tuesday afternoon and I pop in to check on her a few times a week. My husband does odd jobs for her. |
