I can't recall actually 'acting out' scenes from my writing although I've read dialogue aloud to ensure the language comes out naturally (same as I read poetry aloud and pretty much all my writing aloud) I do something weird though, I sit down and type entire conversations between me and my characters when I'm planning them. It's like conducting an interview with an invisible friend. I'm at my keyboard and I think of a question and I write it on the page as if I've just addressed it aloud and then the I write the answer as if the character has just responded. Sometimes it makes me wonder if I 'channel' my characters. It's a great way for me to overcome a block caused by a character issue and it really helps me come to know my characters while maintaining a distance that allows me to be an objective observer (omniscient) instead of always being the star of every story.
