I liked them done with a five minute boil which rendered them soft, but not mushy and with a certain gelatinous thickness that could stand up to additives like milk, brown sugar and cinnamon. They need to be thick enough to stick to your ribs. That's the point to porridge, to keep you satiated while you do morning chores.
