My first paying job was at 14 years old when I went to work as a busboy in a large 300 room resort in a state park on a major lake in Oklahoma where my mother was catering manager. The pay was $0.26 per hour. Over the course of 12 years, with a 4 year break in the navy, I worked my way to head desk clerk and assumed assistant manager.

I would highly recommend that you DO NOT ever work for your mother. I got the worst jobs so it didn’t look like favoritism. I could have used a little favoritism.
