In spite of the fact that my mom thought ALL animals had rabies, I used to rescue wild critters. I raised orphaned skunks, raccoons, and possums. Once, I pulled a juvenile possum out of a garbage can with bare hands. I had owned pet possums in the past and figured they were all calm and gentle. But this one was WILD. It bit the sap out of me with its many needle-sharp teeth and was hanging from my forearm. I shook it off and bicycled home. Never did tell my parents.
