I, too, have had my life preserved by those medical practitioners. But that doesn't alter my feelings regarding the experience of medical examinations. I am weird enough that I react to the humiliation by being the most lovable, affable patient in the hospital with a cute accent to boot. My doctors love me and so would the nurses if only they wouldn't change them every week or so.
But inside I still hate the experience. It's hard work being so charming and likable; the only reward is the relief when it's all over and I'm free for another year. As the years pass, I think seriously about becoming free of it all by not bothering to renew my prescriptions. I've been taking these stupid pills for over twenty years now and I often doubt that they have any effect on me anymore. That would be true freedom, after all. And a lot cheaper!
What about dying, you ask. Well, I've exceeded the manufacturer's warranty (70 yrs) so I'm quite prepared to take my chances.
