Okay before I answer yes or no, I'd like to state that I believe the universe has a speed limit equal to the constant c, the speed of light in a vacuum. Nothing made out of "normal" matter can go faster than this. In fact the fastest it can go usually, with the exception of photons, neutrinos and other subatomic particles, is some fraction of that speed.(heck even photons get slowed down when moving through anything that's not a vacuum.) I also believe that extra solar planets that we have discovered thus far are many lightyears distant from earth. Making interstellar travel difficult if it is possible at all. So yes I believe alien life exists. However because of the above mentioned factors it has worse odds of humans ever meeting it than a human has of being struck by lightning twice. I think someone is saying "what if it was on a planet or moon in our own solar system?" While I admit this is possible. The conditions for life as we know it are difficult to find. Aliens from our own solar system might not even be multi cellular. If they exist on Enceladus, Titan or Europa, it's doubtful they'll be making space craft...yet. More likely one of our machines will make first contact with species there. Conditions on those moons can't be overcome by humans, even with a spacesuit. |
