Dogs have a wonderful sense of character, I agree.

We once had a few neighborhood guys come to the door to chat with my husband about some work we were doing in the basement. My husband led them downstairs and Charlie (our yellow lab) stared at the door growling until they came back up. Charlie had met all the guys before except for one. We knew him and his family from the neighborhood, but Charlie didn't. When they came upstairs, they proceeded to sit around and chat. Charlie kept pacing and every time he passed that guy, he growled.

After they left, I told my husband that Charlie did not like that guy and I didn't want him in the house again. Dogs just know!
