Well, you know they're beginning to doubt the big bang theory now, don't you? It seems they've noticed at last that, even if you start the thing with a tiny little bit of, umm, something that suddenly explodes into a huge thing we call the universe, there's still the existence of the original tiny pinprick that needs to be explained. So, in a typical evasion of modern science, they've decided to scrap the whole idea and look for something else instead. The whole thing is a lesson in our approach to "facts." Much depends upon how we define the word. As it was understood in my day, a fact was something that was acceptable because it's opposite was clearly not true. These days, a fact is something that "the science" has decided we must believe and no argument against it will be entertained therefore. In such a world, I know whose version of facts I prefer to believe. Science is a fluid thing and has no right to be viewed as incontrovertible. So of course there are things that were believed in my day that are now regarded as untrue. But give it a century or two... |
