Look, it's in there for a lot of people, but there is a reason why Stephen King's On Writing is held in such high regard - it is simple, it is not long, it makes sense, and (more to the point) it works. I read it every 3 or so years to remind myself.
How Not To Write A Novel by Howard Mittelmark and Sandra Newman is another really good one for long works.
Then again, I think there is a lot more to be said for innate talent than is given credit for.
