I can't say attempts at positivity helped me. When I was in my teens and it had finally sunk in that wearing a panty girdle was going to be a long term thing, I did try to give myself positive pep talks about it - it's only clothes, millions of women cope with it, I do look slimmer in it - and similar crap. It didn't help much. At work, though, I have seen a few colleagues get into the negativity spiral - it seems that a "can't do" attitude is much easier to cultivate than a "can do" one.
