I actually don't watch 'regular' TV, but have been known to binge-watch YouTube clips of favorite shows and movies. What triggers these descents into cinematic history? It varies. Sometimes, it's something I come across here, sometimes it's something from the 'real world', and sometimes it's simple word association. For example, the word 'apparently' always triggers the memory of this bit from a Season 4 episode of NCIS called "Witch Hunt" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_ym5ZDrqT8 )in which bad guys have kidnapped a woman's daughter. I mostly remember it from the 0:30 mark onward, but the trigger is Gibbs' comment at 1:03. I may not always click over to YouTube to watch it, but my internal viewer leaps right into action.
