I think, much like the invention of calculators, computers and even (especially) TV/film, it's yet another way to dumb us down, so to speak.
We possess the most complex computers in existence, to our knowledge, naturally. Unfortunately, we're only using a tiny fraction of its capacity as it. When we use these tools, we disallow ourselves opportunities to strengthen our own muscles, to calculate and work out problems ourselves, to think critically and formulate our own ideas and solutions without the influence of an apparatus, machine, artificial intelligence.
It's not good or bad, just sad.
TV/Film and social media are whole different subjects, though related. The sheer amount of bad programming that sticks with us.... Ok, I'm done rambling.
