As a teen in my religion, I had an early morning program offered before school started. Those who wished to attend could but it was not mandatory. It wasn't state sponsored, the church had a volunteer teacher come in. We called it Seminary—or Cemetery if you were one of the snarky kids. It was there that I gained a foundation in the Scriptures of my religion. It comes in handy, especially during double Jeopardy when they have bible questions that stump most of the contestants. In college, in Utah anyways, there is a special campus built near most of the state's colleges and Universities that offers special religion classes—including an unbiased comparative religion class. This special building is called Institute. I graduated from that program a year before I got my Bachelors of Science from Utah State University. Anyways if you were to incorporate an optional theology class similar to that. Where it wouldn't be mandatory, I think that could help the youth of today broaden their minds. Especially if a unit on comparative religion was offered. Just my opinion but understanding other people's beliefs is paramount to being a decent human being. |
