We don't get many trick or treaters nowadays... No, that's not true - we don't get any. But that may be because we don't do the Halloween thing at all. That's not because we have any objections or are just mean. We're now too old and creaky to get up and answer any knocks at night. So it's a physical strain that we don't need and also a function of the fact that we live in an upstairs apartment with entrance at the rear of the building. Few trick or treaters would find us anyway.
As for your second question, no, I've never dressed up in costume to hand out candy. We brits don't really do Halloween, although certain commercial forces keep trying to get us into it. We're too wary and jaded these days to be persuaded into yet another festival. I did hand out candy (uncostumed) in my early years in the States but circumstances mitigated (good word) against it eventually.
The experience has opened my eyes to the importance of the continuing tradition in America, however. It's part of what holds the country together.
