When I discovered a charity I'd contributed to had passed on less than $50k to the research, but paid almost a million in executive salaries and perks, I stopped donating.

I understand you need competent people to run these things, but I don't give money to support their houses in ritzy suburbs while research stagnates through lack of funds.

In Australia, I believe all registered charities must release income, expenses (including salaries) and backers, so we know if a group with ideals against ours have tried to create a charity under what I would consider a false front... and it used to happen a lot.
