Here, a person can sit for the written learners at 15 yrs 9 months. At 16 they can start lessons with a learners permit. Must be with a full license holder in the car at all times; that full license holder must have a blood alcohol level of 0.00, as must the driver. Max of 100 k/h, and a certain engine size car. L-plates must be displayed at all times. At 17 they can sit the test for a probationary license. If they get it, they are on level 1 for a year, then level 2 for a year. So they are on a full license at 19 years of age minimum, but can drive from 17. P1 means they can only have one non-family person in the car, cannot go faster than 100k/h, can only drive between midnight and 6am if they have a letter from an employer, cannot drive a car with an engine above a certain size/power. P-plates must be displayed at all times. P2 means they can have up to 3 non-family members in the car, max speed of 100k/h, no time restrictions, no engine restrictions, no p-plates. Blood alcohol for both allowed is 0.00; full license it's 0.05 (our drinking age is 18). We have more issues, according to accident and other metrics, with drivers over the age of 70. |
