As a former instructor/course developer/course writer, I can tell you that personal research is an excellent education tool, one of the best. A person, especially a writer, needs to learn how to educate themselves.
Anyone who wants to be a writer needs to conduct their own research, and understand that material sufficiently that they're not just throwing words around.
Further, NIETZSCHE's quote that I paraphrased is readily available, negating the misrepresentation that it's obscure.
The young person in question has the opportunity to demonstrate whether they have the curiosity, intelligence, perseverence, judgment, et al, to evolve into an excellent writer, which takes a lot of continuous work, or be just another biped. (Most of us are still working at it.)
