I tried to remember my own reaction to reading to the Nancy Drew books as a kid. One thing I am positive about is that reading these books did not make me think of either being a criminal or a detective. I was more interested that Nancy had a car (a convertible, since I am a child of the 70's) a boyfriend, and the freedom to run around solving crimes in unlikely places. Most of all, I was intrigued with her Titian hair.
