Growing up in the UK, I devoured every book I could get my hands on. I dare say I might have been a better adult today if I'd stayed away from one or two of them - please don't ask! - but certainly not Enid Blyton. Her Famous Five and Secret Seven detective-cum-adventure stories were an integral part of my juvenile world, not to mention introducing me to the joys of Alliteration!
