I was raised by a mom who called herself a mugwump but was registered with the Republican party. My dad was a Democrat but decided the elections were rigged to favor a bipartisan system despite there being way more candidates out there so he started voting for third party.
This was a confusing house to grow up in.
Also, we didn't have health insurance growing up. So my parents never took me to see a dentist, doctors were only for if we were so sick we thought we were dying. Or that one time my dad suffered a severe 2nd degree burn to a large area of his body.
I finally developed my own opinions when I was in college. Barak Obama was voted into office around that time. He was inteligent enough to realize that he needed to help his fellow American. By passing the ACA, his administration made it possible for my mom to get help for her stroke, get back on meds and get good care. The ACA has also benefited crazy ol' me too so...I guess this is the long way of saying that my personal experiences have shaped my political beliefs.
