Yeah, it isn't fun at all. Fortunately, it's fairly simple to avoid; I'm just very mindful and careful about what I eat, drink, and order on the occasions that I eat out -- and I'm reasonably cautious when I share a meal in someone else's home, because some folks use artificial sweeteners in their home cooking/baking. A little polite communication goes a long way in those situations. This sensitivity to artificial sweeteners runs in the family, so except for one aunt by marriage, I have nothing to worry about when eating with family. The other silver lining with this sensitivity is that it makes me prepare home meals much more often than eating out, because that's the surest way to avoid accidentally consuming the stuff -- and cooking/baking puts me in touch with my heritage, which is a beautiful feeling. And since artificial sweeteners are most common in drinks and items containing syrups, many candies; bottled drinks; and baked goods hold little to no temptation for me. It rather simplifies improving my diet, which is a blessing. I just have to watch how much dark chocolate I consume. XD |
