Not sure I know anything about it. I know diversity is about a lot more than ethnicity. Equity has something to do with everyone having a fair shot. Inclusion when it's not used in geology, refers to everyone being able to participate. The problem is I live in a house and town where I am constantly bombarded by viewpoints from the right wing of US politics. The whole of Cape May County is basically so ultra conservative that I'm afraid to voice any opinions about DEI. It also makes it hard to get my own information on the topic. I like the idea of everyone getting to participate in Democracy(in any country) and everyone regardless of gender identity, physical/mental ability, orientation, mental health, sexual orientation, etc. being able to do everything that any other "typical" citizen would. Do I think DEI exists in reality? Depends on where you are and your credit score. Let's face it, there's not exactly equity or inclusiveness as I would like them to exist.(Ask people with severe epilepsy, cerebral palsy, major depressive disorder or down syndrome. A lot of the people I know with these "disabilities" have trouble finding and keeping work on the East Coast because employers and consumers just don't want to have them as part of their real communities. At least that's my perception.) There, I've stirred the pot for the week. Sorry for being ridiculous. |
