Hello all! I'm a long-time reader who recently began writing. I learned to read at the age of 3 and have read voraciously ever since. My main areas of interest are fantasy and poetry, although I haven't ever found a book I haven't enjoyed to some degree. Some of my favorite books/series, in no particular order: - The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings. I've read the Hobbit dozens of times and the trilogy twice. - Dune. The Frank Herbert books. I haven't branched into the Brian Herbert books and I'm quite scared to tbh. - Hyperion. Wonderful style, rich world, great characters. Would recommend. - Wheel of Time. I haven't finished this (yet) due to it's size and my lack of time to read these days, but I've loved the first 8 books. - Tom Playfair. Old books that stand up well today as good stories. Classic early 20th century schoolboy shenanigans. - Redwall. Mice with swords. Wonderful feasts. Kind of formulaic, but the books don't suffer from it. - Cosmere. Stormlight Archive (don't abreviate that) and the Mistborn era's in particular. Although I think Sanderson has declined over the last few years, he is still very good. - Robin Hobb. She is an amazing author who has written so many series I think it's more efficient to just mention her as a person. Read everything of hers that you can. - Ranger's Apprentice. Junior fantasy that left quite the impression on me as a kid. The list could go on for a while, but I think you get the point. When I'm not writing or reading or working my real jobs, I'm usually playing D&D or Rivals of Aether with my friends, playing Elden Ring or whatever Zelda game has captured my interest, or some other hobby. I get up to a lot of stuff, which would explain the lack of sleep recently. I'm excited to find a good-sized community of writers, as it's an art I've been enjoying getting into. See you all on the page! |
