I wanted to ask for any tips or suggestions on how to improve the implementation of dialogue and action within a story.
When I write I often focus on the mind. "Why is it happening?". That's my strongest ability. To search why one might do the things they do and put it in words. Unfortunately because of that, I often struggle with implementing dialogue or making the characters do anything.
I feel my dialogue and actions feel awkward and out of place. I could have a paragraph describing what the MC feels but then struggle on how I should continue the story. I often think: "Would a dialogue not seem abrupt?" or "Is this action sudden?"
If anyone has a suggestion on something I could do to practice getting out of this habit, it will be appreciated. I want to be able to write a book one day. So I feel in order to do so I have to polish my writing weaknesses. So I'm starting with this one!
