There is no excuse now for the online translators to be so confusing with their translations of the Libra. I'd say otherwise. A server with a dedicated machine learning program trying to translate the Libra would certainly short-circuit, meaning it's no more effective than typical translation. That said, do recall that BoM is a product of its time. By the time you wrote it, the "Internet of Things" was just emerging, and many of the things that could happen nowadays couldn't back then. At this point, it's safe to say that alternate history is in play, with Fane most likely stymying advancement of AI because it could work against them if their plans come into fruition, in a "slave rebellion" kind of thing. Or, though it could slowly creep, it'd be something like ChatGPT and not something like Dali or FaceApp or something like that. That said, makes sense that, if there wasn't one at this point, there won't be any newspaper. As you said, it's a sign of the times. I do feel that modern media clubs would probably experiment with a podcast at the very least (one media format that has survived despite its original medium - the Apple iPod - becoming obscure enough that the name is basically a relic now), in order to prepare students for either mainstream media or independent programming. (And depending on the popularity of the podcast, it could make it so that several future influencers would want to be there.) I do say that this is more of a problem for "The Wandering Stars", as very few has been written so deep into the future that may suggest the emergence of AI. Just as the official statement of "there is no school newspaper" would be true, so should be the statement of "there is no AI programs or are so primitive that they can't do what you'd currently expect", and even if they existed, the school would most likely frown on them. But again, artifact of the times. |
