Yeah, and I've been avoiding AI for anything beyond basic entertainment with chatbots or whatever. Not that Google has been making it easy with that stupid AI garbage everywhere that they don't let you block anymore. I despise Google AI lol. Thank god for browser extensions. But anyway, I think there's probably decent odds that AI will eventually be prevalent enough that you will have to make a choice between making reference to it or fixing BoM in the past/saying it doesn't exist in BoM timeline to explain its absence. That said, I don't think it's necessarily your job to make it blatantly spell it out for new readers if you decide to not mention it. This is an 18+ story, so I dearly hope any new person reading this story has the critical thinking skills to puzzle together that a multi million word story that makes no reference to AI might just happen to predate it without being explicitly told, but maybe that's just me. That said, I don't necessarily think AI is so incompatible with the story that it cuts the premise off at its roots. I think it would actually make sense for Will to ask ChatGPT for an idea, and ChatGPT just so happens to suggest putting in a book as an option, as yet another one of those little 'coincidences' that draws the Will and the book closer together. It's far from the craziest thing it could suggest, and Will has clearly been to Arnholm's enough time to be familiar with what the Arnholm brothers are like, so it's not exactly an impossible scenario. Though I do see that him struggling so much in the more recent lines when doesn't put in the book and needs something else are a lot harder to explain. Clearly the answer to this conundrum is that he tried to translate the book in ChatGPT, and it glitched out the server and permanently crashed the entire system in BoM world |
