CARELESS PEOPLE is in development as s film, starring the actor who played Zuckerberg in "The Social Network."
Review: At so many points in this memoir of Life at Facebook, I found myself shouting internally: "NO! NO! NO! Harassment! RESIGN! Get a Feminist attorney!" and "NO! that's fascist thinking!" and "Right-wing!" Or "Nauseating Narcissism!"
All too often, I shouted, "Sarah, WHY didn't you resign?"
I realize nowadays toxic workplace culture is not surprising; but what an eye-opener is this memoir. "Eyeopener" is accurate for both the reader, and for the author. It's fascinating to watch the fluctuations in the character arc as she falls from idealism into recognition and culture shock, and grasps with issues of personal identity, intuition, standing one's ground, "speaking Truth to power."
Another aspect strongly resonant for me is the parallels to certain aspects of contemporary culture; particularly the narcissism demonstrated by "leaders," sexual harassment, and the too-fast slippery slide to immorality in business practices in the name of profit, greed, and expansion; and the use of Social Media and propaganda tools to advance the side of choice, in politics, government, and business. Any shred of idealism is kicked to the curb, and business becomes a dictatorship run by a demagogue.
