July books 1 and 2
My Kind of Earl: A Wicked Regency Historical Romance Novel of Scoundrels and Ballrooms in London (The Mating Habits of Scoundrels Book 2)

I can't remember if I reviewed book one here? I enjoyed it too. Anyway, I want to review this one while it's fresh in my mind. *Smile* I don't feel like giving it stars though, so I'll just review here instead of a product review.

I enjoyed the book, even though there were too many illogical things for it to really work unless you decided to just ignore them all and go with it. Jane Pickerington's character was fun and quirky, yet she was supposedly totally scientific and born to neglectful parents (attention wise, they provided all the material things and more that were needed for their 11 children, of which Jane was the oldest). She was often lost in books and scientific procedures *but* she also basically raised all her siblings on her own and kept them out of trouble. I don't really see how you can be a nutty professor type and be as good a surrogate parent as she was? If you ignore things like this, it was a funny, fun, romantic tale. I grew to love Jane and Raven, her boistrous siblings, and even her butler, as well as Raven's grandfather, and was really interested in the unraveling of the truth behind Raven's mysterious past.

I loved how Jane had a habit of being prepared for any kind of circumstance with her reticule full of scientific experiments like exploding powder candles that could turn a person pink or green and create a smoke screen.

I do plan on reading the next book in my series. Oddly, my library had book one and three but not two, so I bought this one when it was on sale. I borrowed book one from the library. I should just review that one now... hope you don't mind two reviews in one post.

Lord Holt Takes a Bride: A Regency Historical Romance Novel (The Mating Habits of Scoundrels Book 1)

This one was more action packed and involved Winnifred Humphries (Winnie) and Lord Asher Holt's romance, but it started with Winnie's friends accidentally abducting Asher and holding him hostage because they didn't know what to do with him. Winnie is supposed to be marrying someone else very soon after this happens. This someone else is not someone I would wish on her, for sure. He is beyond rude to her and so of course it's good when she doesn't marry him, but the fun is reading about how she gets out of it and how she and Asher come to fall in love, and how Asher can convince her that it's her, and not her dowry, that he loves.

Lord Asher Holt has a truly revolting, evil father and he is one of those characters you love to hate.

Winnie's friends are well meaning but because a great deal of money went missing when they abducted him, he thought they stole it from him and this was an important thread throughout the book. One also needs to suspend some belief for this one, and it's been a while since I read it, but I seem to remember that it was more plausible than the second. I think I laughed out loud more during this one, but mostly at the beginning. Whereas book two had me chuckling throughout.

So, I enjoyed both books. I found them to be entertaining and they felt like just what I wanted for summer light reading. As usual, I skipped the sex scenes for personal reasons.
