One of my favorite jokes is a bit long, but here goes. Feast & Festival Early in the 20th Century, Hellman’s Mayonnaise became a world-wide sensation. The first ready-made mayonnaise was sold in 1905, but it wasn’t until Hellman’s mass marketed it in 1912 that it became the world-wide sensation. It seemed that every place on Earth was craving Hellman’s Mayonnaise, even remote areas. In a small village in Mexico, Don Pedro brought some back with him from the city. Everyone tasted it, and of course everyone wanted a jar of their own. So the village people pooled their money and brought TEN cases of it. Now, Hellman’s Deli in New York City did not have enough on hand to fill the large order, but of course there was ample stock in England. So the Deli arranged for the village’s shipment to be sent from there. It was shipped on the fastest ship in the world, the Titanic. Of course, we all know what happened to the Titanic. But few outside of the villagers, knew that this shipment of mayonnaise was on it. When news of the Titanic’s sinking reached the village, the people were devastated. Many mourned the sinking, not for the people killed in the cold waters of the Atlantic, but for the lost shipment of mayonnaise. The following year, when the date of the village learning of the lost mayonnaise came around, a memorial service was held. This tradition continued, and has evolved throughout the years. They still hold this service, but now it’s more of a feast & festival than anything else. They’ve even created a name for this annual occasion. They call it…. > > > Wait for it…. > > > > > > > Wait for it…. > > > > > > > Cinco De Mayo…. Jim Dorrell{/sig} |
