I go back and forth on the idea of compulsory voting... on the one hand, I think civic engagement is incredibly important and wish there were a mechanism to make more people take it seriously. On the other hand, even if you compel voting, you can't compel informed voting, so I wonder how (further) skewed election results would be if you added roughly 100 million votes from people who were filling out ballots not because they were excited to vote or even particularly knowledgeable about the issues, but because they were told they had to mail in a ballot or stop by a voting center "or else."
