Day 30: General Marketing
(1) Identify your story type from this list of story types or define it with your own nomenclature.
(2) Describe your target audience. Identify the demographic profile of your ideal reader (use your character profile template!). Explain in detail what aspects of your novel will appeal to this particular audience and why. Please read this blog post to understand the importance of marketing, and why targeting "mass appeal" or "all readers" isn't good enough: "Building Your Brand"
(3) Write a synopsis of your novel using the same narrative voice you will use to tell the story. Identify and pay attention to the tone of your narration. Is it formal or informal? Is it witty? Dark? Sarcastic? Whimsical? Is it optimistic or pessimistic? Make a deliberate choice about the tone of your writing so you can stay consistent when you launch into writing your novel. The tone should be appropriate for your target audience.

This is about your audience. First, it asks for a list of story types to be used in the novel. It could be mystery, thriller, or romance. Mine is fantasy. Second, it asks about the audience. I think YA is a popular audience target. So is Adult. Middle Grade could be a pick too. Why do you feel this is your audience?

Last is the synopsis told in the POV of the story. If it is third person, write it in third person. If it is first person, write it in first person. By now, you should know your story pretty well. A synopsis covers the ordinary world to the inciting incident in paragraph one. Then the middle point and downward spiral or upward spiral in paragraph two. Last is the climax and ending. A synopsis for this assignment can include the book title, a word count estimate, and the audience, either at the beginning or the end.
