A Visit to the USS Midway

Here is a view of the flight tower on the USS Midway at night. You can clearly see the "41." The 41 means that it was the 41st Aircraft Carrier built. It's official designation was CV-41 CV meaning Carrier Vessel. The USS Midway was commissioned and had it's first voyage in 1945 and it was named after the battle of the Midway (World War II). The Flight Tower is were the Air Boss sits. An Air boss is responsible for all flight operations on an Aircraft Carrier.
